The Banco Nacional Ultramarino was the note-issuing authority for Macau from 1902 until the handover functions transferred to the Autoridade Monetária de Macau — making any BNU issue from 2013 a late-chapter note from an institution well past its peak monetary role. The lunar new year commemorative format had become a reliable annual fixture by this point, with the Year of the Snake fitting into a collector-driven series rather than serving any pressing monetary need.
The print date of 30 April 1945 in the metadata is almost certainly a cataloging error. Giesecke & Devrient did not print Macanese pataca notes in 1945.
