Opmerkingen

Banco Nacional Ultramarino issued this commemorative note for the 1984 Macau Grand Prix — an unusual step for a colonial-era institution more accustomed to routine circulation issues. The Grand Prix itself had been running since 1954 on the Guia Circuit, but commemorative banknotes tied to motorsport events were rare anywhere in the world at this point, making the BNU's decision genuinely odd and, for collectors, genuinely interesting.

Bradbury Wilkinson had handled BNU's Macanese issues for decades by the time this was printed at their New Malden facility. The firm was acquired by American Banknote Corporation in 1990, ending a long run of colonial and Commonwealth currency work.
