Bradbury Wilkinson produced this note during a period when Macau's colonial banking arrangements were becoming increasingly anomalous — the BNU had held the monopoly on currency issue in the territory since 1902, and by 1958 was operating in a city whose entrepôt economy ran heavily on gold trading and currency arbitrage rather than conventional commerce. The 10 Patacas denomination was the workhorse of daily transactions, and circulated hard.
Two signature combinations are documented for Pick 45, reflecting administrative changes within the BNU's Lisbon directorate. Vieira Machado's name appears on both pairings — a continuity worth noting when attributing examples to specific issue batches.
