| Obverse description | The elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Mahmud II occupies the upper portion of the field, rendered in fine relief with characteristic loops and pennants extending upward. Below the tughra, a horizontal dividing line separates the mint and date inscription in Arabic script. The legend reads 'Struck in Constantinople, year 1223' (AH), referring to the Hijri regnal year. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a bold outer beaded border. |
