| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid I, rendered in fine relief with characteristic sweeping horizontal strokes and looped vertical elements. A stylized rose spray with bud and leaves is positioned to the upper right of the tughra. The regnal year appears in Arabic numerals at the base of the design, below the tughra. The overall composition is characteristic of Ottoman imperial coinage of the mid-nineteenth century, with the tughra serving as the principal identifying device of the sovereign. |
