| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the Montenegrin state coat of arms: a displayed double-headed eagle with spread wings, each head surmounted by a single royal crown, and both heads together beneath a larger imperial crown topped by a cross. The eagle's breast bears a shield depicting a lion passant. The left talon grasps a sceptre and the right talon holds an orb surmounted by a cross. The design is set within a plain field bordered by a beaded inner circle. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Montenegro's nickel coinage of 1906–1908 represents the first indigenous struck currency of the principality, issued under Nikola I shortly before he elevated the state to a kingdom in 1910. Prior to this series, the principality had relied almost entirely on foreign coins — primarily Austrian and Ottoman issues — circulating by custom rather than legal decree.
KM#3 was struck at the Vienna Mint, which held the contract for Montenegro's early coinage program.
