Beschrijving keerzijde Two motor vehicles are depicted in the central field to commemorate the centenary of the automobile: a vintage early twentieth-century open touring car rendered in the upper portion of the field, and a Morris Mini Cowley saloon car prominently displayed in the lower foreground. The encircling legend CENTENARY OF THE MOTOR CAR arcs across the upper periphery, flanked by the commemorative dates 1885 and 1985 on either side. The denomination 10 PA'ANGA appears at the base between two raised dots, all enclosed within a decorative beaded inner border and a reeded outer rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Tonga's 1985 commemorative gold program was an extension of Taufa'ahau Tupou IV's long-running enthusiasm for unconventional coinage — the kingdom had been issuing oddly shaped and thematically eclectic pieces since the early 1960s, making it a persistent curiosity in Pacific numismatics. The Mini series specifically commemorated vintage automobiles, an unusual subject for a Pacific island monarchy with no particular automotive heritage.

KM#92a is the gold variant of a type also struck in silver. The .917 fineness matches the traditional 22-karat standard used across Tonga's gold commemorative output during this decade.
