The ort — from the German Ort, meaning a quarter — was a silver coin worth a quarter thaler, struck extensively in Poland under the Vasa dynasty from the 1620s onward. Sanok's branch of the Polskie Towarzystwo Numizmatyczne has issued this piece as a local numismatic token, a practice common among Polish regional societies since the 1990s as a way of commemorating civic identity through deliberate historical pastiche.
The denomination "10 Ortów" has no historical monetary equivalent — it is a invented unit, purely notional.
