| 裏面の説明 | Four-line stacked inscription filling the central field, reading the royal titulature of Theodahad. The legend is arranged horizontally within the coin's field and surrounded by a wreath or dotted border, typical of Ostrogothic bronze coinage of this period. The epigraphy is in a late Roman lapidary style consistent with coins struck at Rome under Ostrogothic authority. |

Theodahad's reign lasted barely two years before Justinian's generals ended it — and him. He came to power in 534 by arranging the murder of his co-ruler Amalasuntha, daughter of Theoderic the Great, a move that handed Constantinople precisely the diplomatic pretext it needed to launch the Gothic War. These coins were struck against that backdrop of accelerating crisis, with Byzantine forces landing in Sicily the same year the dies were cut.
The Rome mint continued operating under Ostrogothic authority until 536, when Witigis abandoned the city to Belisarius without meaningful resistance.
