Obverse description Frontal bust of the Ostrogothic king Baduila depicted in imperial Roman style, wearing a diadem and cuirass with paludamentum visible at the shoulders. The bust is rendered in a somewhat stylized, late antique manner typical of Ostrogothic coinage, facing directly forward with schematic facial features. The surrounding legend reads D N BADV - ILA REX, identifying the ruler as dominus noster Baduila Rex. The overall composition imitates contemporary Byzantine numismatic iconography while retaining a distinctly Ostrogothic artistic character. The field is flat and the die work is characteristic of the Rome mint under Baduila's brief reign.
