| Obverse description | The obverse presents the Mexican national arms in high relief at centre, depicting an eagle perched upon a cactus and devouring a serpent, surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath. The design is set within a raised hexagonal panel whose border is decorated with a repeating frieze of pre-Columbian Mayan glyphs, echoed again in the outer annular ring of the coin. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs above the arms within the panel. Below the hexagonal frame, in the lower field, the denomination inscription 5 ONZAS DE PLATA and the fineness LEY 0.999 appear in two lines. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a detailed frontal view of El Castillo, the iconic stepped Mayan pyramid at Chichén Itzá, rendered in high relief and set within a raised hexagonal panel bordered by a continuous frieze of pre-Columbian Mayan glyphs that also encircles the outer annular ring. The date 1994 appears in the left field and the Mexico City Mint mark Mo is positioned in the right field, both within the hexagonal frame. Below the pyramid, within the lower portion of the panel, the inscription PIRAMIDE DEL CASTILLO is engraved in three lines. The denomination N$10 is struck in bold characters in the exergual field beneath the hexagonal border. |
