This piece is part of Israel's "Wildlife of the Holy Land" series, which ran through the 1990s and drew on Levantine fauna with explicit reference to biblical zoology. The 1995 issue in this series features the chameleon — an animal listed among the impure creatures in Leviticus. Whether the choice was deliberate provocation or simply naturalistic, the Bank of Israel has never publicly said.
