Piedforts — coins struck at double thickness on standard-diameter blanks — have no circulation function; they exist purely as collector artifacts, a tradition revived in modern issues largely by the French Mint and adopted wholesale by other national mints through the 1980s and 1990s. The Bank of Israel's piedfort program followed that wave. The bimetallic composition here mirrors the circulating 10 New Sheqalim but at elevated weight, making the piece physically distinct in hand despite identical diameter.
