The central figure holds an open illustrated book, while adjacent figures carry a timbrel and a lute-like instrument, evoking the biblical scene of Miriam leading the women in song and dance after the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20–21). The composition spans the full diameter of the field in a frieze-like arrangement, with decorative scrollwork ornamenting the left and right borders. The rendering faithfully captures the linear, Gothic-influenced style of the original manuscript illumination, executed with fine incised lines against a polished proof field.
