| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely engraved scene adapted from the celebrated Golden Haggadah, an illuminated Hebrew manuscript produced in Barcelona circa 1320, depicting five women in flowing medieval robes celebrating the Exodus from Egypt. The central figure holds an open illustrated book, while adjacent figures carry a timbrel and a lute-like instrument, evoking the biblical scene of Miriam leading the women in song and dance after the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20–21). The composition spans the full diameter of the field in a frieze-like arrangement, with decorative scrollwork ornamenting the left and right borders. The rendering faithfully captures the linear, Gothic-influenced style of the original manuscript illumination, executed with fine incised lines against a polished proof field. No inscriptions appear on the reverse. |
