Part of Israel's long-running Independence Day commemorative series, this issue marks the country's 57th anniversary. The "Golden Years" theme referenced the ingathering of Jewish communities from across the Middle East and North Africa during the 1950s — a mass migration that more than doubled Israel's population within its first decade and placed enormous strain on the young state's infrastructure and economy.
KM#404 was struck at the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation in Jerusalem, the same facility that has produced every Independence Day gold issue since the series began in 1962.
