Taiwan's lunar new year commemorative series has run continuously since the late 1990s, cycling through the twelve animals with each new issue authorized by the Central Bank in Taipei. The 2024 Dragon issue marks the second full cycle for the series — the first Dragon coin appeared in 2000, making this effectively a generational reset of the same program.
The colorization was applied post-strike, a process the CBC has standardized across recent issues in this series rather than using enamel inlay or privy-marked alternatives favored by some regional mints.
