Mongolia's small-denomination coinage of this period was produced under the Mongolian People's Republic, a Soviet satellite state whose monetary system was tightly integrated with COMECON economic structures. The tögrög itself had been introduced in 1925 to displace Chinese and Russian currencies that had previously circulated in tandem across the country. These möngö fractions saw genuine everyday use in a command economy where retail prices were state-fixed and heavily subsidized — bread, transport, and basic goods were priced in exact möngö increments by central decree.
