Additional information

Mongolia's 1937 coinage series was issued under the Mongolian People's Republic at a moment of extreme Soviet pressure — the same year Khorloogiin Choibalsan consolidated power and the Great Purge extended into Mongolian territory, killing tens of thousands including most of the country's Buddhist clergy. The mint work itself was contracted to the Soviet Union, as Mongolia had no domestic minting infrastructure.
