Opmerkingen

One of the more eccentric footnotes in Allied occupation currency, this piece was issued by the 24th Australian Infantry Brigade for internal use during operations in the Middle East. Unit-level scrip of this kind was produced to manage canteen transactions and prevent local currency from leaking out of controlled areas — or, equally, to stop soldiers spending outside approved channels.

The 24th Brigade saw service in the Syrian campaign of 1941. Whether this scrip predates, accompanies, or postdates that fighting is not firmly established in the literature.
