Additional information

Tunisia's 1960 coinage program marked the young republic's first fully independent monetary identity, with the Banque Centrale having been established only in 1958. Essai pieces from this series were produced in Paris, where the Monnaie de Paris held the engraving contract. Uniface trial strikes — showing the reverse alone, without the word ESSAI — represent an intermediate production stage, made to evaluate die quality before the paired obverse was committed to metal.

The absence of the ESSAI countermark distinguishes this from the standard trial set and narrows its likely destination to internal mint review rather than the formal presentation sets distributed to government officials.
