Reverse description Three figures rendered in a flat, stylised composition inspired by ancient Egyptian artistic conventions occupy the central field, illustrating the themes of food production and family welfare championed by the FAO. To the left, a standing male figure carries a sheaf of wheat; to the right, a second standing figure holds a fishing rod over his shoulder with two fish suspended from a line; in the foreground centre, a seated female figure nurses an infant, evoking the family planning theme. The legend 'FAO' appears in Latin capitals to the upper left of the design. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim.

Additional information

Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which encouraged member nations to mint circulating coins carrying agricultural themes as a form of public education during the hunger crises of the 1970s. Egypt participated actively in the FAO program throughout the decade, releasing several denominations tied to specific development campaigns.

The 1975 issue coincides with the FAO's broader push following the 1974 World Food Conference in Rome, convened after grain shortages and the oil embargo had pushed global food prices to crisis levels.
