Rio Grande do Sul's state treasury issued these bônus as a parallel circulating medium during the early 1930s fiscal crunch — the Vargas revolution of 1930 had severed the gaúcho political machine from federal patronage, and the state was left managing obligations without adequate federal currency supply. The bônus filled the gap locally.
Livraria do Globo was primarily a publishing house and bookshop, and its lithographic facilities were modest by central-bank standards. Series F notes occasionally show uneven ink distribution and slight misregistration — not errors as such, but a predictable limitation of a commercial printer pressed into fiduciary work.
