The Banco do Brasil had been issuing notes through the American Bank Note Company since the late nineteenth century, and by 1930 the relationship was well established — ABNC's security printing for Brazilian institutions was among its most consistent foreign contracts of the interwar period. The "2nd Print" designation distinguishes this from the earlier impression of the same design, differences typically found in plate registration, ink density, or minor typographic adjustments rather than any change to the authorized design itself.

1930 is a significant year for this note. Getúlio Vargas's revolution in October ended the First Republic and placed the Banco do Brasil under substantially different political management within months of this series circulating.
