Comments

The Banco da República do Brasil was itself a short-lived institution — formed in 1892 from the merger of the Banco do Brasil and the Banco República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil, it collapsed under the financial wreckage of the Encilhamento, Brazil's speculative boom-and-bust of the early 1890s, and was liquidated by 1905. This 10 Mil Réis falls within the second print run, distinguished from the first by subtle typographic and color differences that Giesecke & Devrient introduced between production batches.

G&D's Leipzig facility was the dominant supplier of Brazilian currency printing during this period, a relationship that persisted well beyond this bank's own demise.
