The Banco da República do Brasil was itself a short-lived institution — formed in 1892 through the forced merger of the Banco do Brasil and the Banco da República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil, it was dissolved in 1905 when the modern Banco do Brasil was reconstituted. This note falls early in that compressed institutional lifespan, printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig during the chaotic monetary aftermath of Brazil's Encilhamento speculation bubble, which had collapsed in 1891 and left the country's banking system severely disordered.
The "1st. Print" designation matters here — subsequent printings for the same series differed in detail, and the distinction affects attribution more than condition ever could.
