| 备注 |
The Banco dos Estados Unidos do Brazil was a short-lived private institution, chartered in the chaotic early months of the First Brazilian Republic after the November 1889 coup that ended the Empire. The new republican government under Finance Minister Rui Barbosa pursued an aggressive policy of authorizing multiple banks to issue currency simultaneously — the period known as the Encilhamento — triggering rampant speculation, inflation, and an eventual monetary crisis that discredited several of the institutions involved.
The American Bank Note Company printed for numerous Brazilian banks during this period, often working from similar compositional templates across competing issuers. The S-prefix in the Pick reference reflects its classification as a private commercial bank issue rather than a state-authorized central emission.
