Obverse description The national arms of Mozambique are depicted centrally in the field, featuring a shield charged with a rising sun, crossed rifle and hoe over an open book, set against a background of ocean waves. The shield is flanked by a sprig of maize to the right and a sugar cane stalk to the left, with a cogwheel at the base. Surmounting the arms is a five-pointed star. The circular legend REPÚBLICA DE MOÇAMBIQUE runs along the upper periphery, and the same inscription appears on a scroll beneath the shield. The date 1994 is incuse in the lower exergue.

Reverse description A naturalistic sprig of the cotton plant (Gossypium) dominates the field, rendered in fine detail with two lobed leaves and three open bolls, each showing the characteristic fluffy fibre bursting from the capsule. The branch extends diagonally across the coin's field. In the lower portion of the field, the denomination legend 10 METICAIS is inscribed in two lines in bold Latin lettering.
