Finland's 1945 currency reform was driven by postwar inflation and the heavy reparations burden imposed by the 1944 armistice with the Soviet Union. The Litt A designation distinguishes this from earlier 1945 printings — suffix letters were applied as the Bank of Finland cycled through successive print runs to meet demand without redesigning the note entirely.
Printed domestically by the Finnish Government Printing Centre rather than contracted abroad, which had been common practice in earlier decades. Wartime and immediate postwar circumstances made foreign procurement impractical.
