背面描述 A detailed frontal elevation of the Semperoper (Saxon State Opera) in Dresden occupies the upper and central field, rendered in finely engraved relief that captures the ornate Neo-Renaissance facade, including its arched windows, sculptural decorations, and the characteristic curved wings of the building. The architectural depiction is presented without a border, allowing the structure to dominate the coin's surface. Below, the two-line legend SEMPEROPER DRESDEN is incused in bold capital letters across the lower field, identifying the celebrated opera house whose reconstruction was completed in 1985.

附加信息

The Semperoper had been gutted by Allied bombing in February 1945 and sat in partial ruin for decades — its reconstruction became one of the GDR's most politically loaded cultural projects, a deliberate signal that East Germany was the rightful inheritor of German classical tradition. The rebuilt opera house reopened on February 13, 1985, exactly forty years to the day after its destruction, with a performance of Weber's Der Freischütz — the same work that had opened the original building in 1841.

This coin was issued the same year to mark that reopening.
