Obverse description The national coat of arms of the German Democratic Republic — a hammer and compass encircled by a wreath of rye ears — is prominently displayed in the central field. The country name DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 10 MARK and the date 1985 appear in the lower portion of the legend. The mint mark A, denoting the Berlin Mint, is positioned to the right of the denomination. The design is executed in a clean, socialist-realist graphic style typical of GDR commemorative coinage.
