备注

Emergency money issued under the Darlehnskassenscheine system that proliferated across German states in the final year of the war, when Reichsbank notes had effectively vanished from everyday commerce through hoarding and military requisition. The Herzoglich Braunschweigische Sparkasse was one of dozens of savings institutions granted temporary authority to issue notgeld at this level — 10 Mark was unusually high for local emergency paper, most of which circulated in Pfennig denominations.

Brunswick's ducal savings bank had been operating since 1765, making it one of the older German provincial institutions to issue wartime paper. The cardboard composition is characteristic of 1918 notgeld, when even paper stocks were rationed.
