正面描述 Bare-headed effigy of Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha facing right, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features. The truncation of the neck is cleanly cut. A circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading CARL·EDVARD·HERZOG·V·SACHSEN·COBURG·V·GOTHA, separated by raised dots used as interpuncts. The mintmark 'A' for the Berlin Mint appears at the bottom of the field below the bust, within the inner beaded border.

附加信息

Charles Eduard — Karl Eduard in German — was just fifteen years old when he inherited the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1900, having been selected from the British royal family to fill a vacant German throne after the death of his uncle Alfred. Born in England and raised at Clarence House, he spoke almost no German upon arrival. This coin was struck five years into his reign, while he was still a minor under regency.

The duchy issued gold coinage sporadically, and this 1905 piece is among the scarcer dates in the series — mintage figures were low even by the modest standards of the smaller German states.
