Burg bei Magdeburg is a mid-sized town on the Ihle canal northwest of Magdeburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1918, its Magistrat stepped in to issue emergency small-change currency — Notgeld — as the imperial monetary system buckled under wartime metal shortages and hoarding.
