| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a central vignette of the Giessen city church tower set within a wreath of laurel leaves, with a ribbon bearing the letters 'G-i-e-s-s-e-n' woven through it. The denomination 'Zehn Mark' appears in large red Fraktur script in the upper left and upper right corners flanking the vignette, while the serial number appears in the lower left and the issue date 'Gießen, 1. Nov. 1918' with the facsimile signature of the Oberbürgermeister to the lower right. Validity text 'Gültig bis 1. Februar 1919' is inscribed to the left, with the reservation clause 'Verlängerung der Einlösungsfrist bleibt vorbehalten' to the right, all on a guilloche-patterned ground. |
