Opmerkingen

Turkmenistan issued this note to commemorate the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, held in Ashgabat in September 2017 — a tournament the government invested billions into, constructing an Olympic Village that Guinness recognized as the largest of its kind. The games were a prestige project for President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who had been personally cultivating an image as patron of Turkmen sport and architecture since at least 2010.

Commemorative polymer or paper manat notes from Turkmenistan are printed almost exclusively by De La Rue, which has held the contract through successive currency redesigns. Security on this issue is modest — watermark and thread only, no optically variable ink.
