The World Lithuanian Song Festival (Pasaulinė lietuvių dainų šventė) is a diaspora extension of the Song and Dance Celebration tradition, which the Soviet occupation had suppressed or co-opted for decades. The 1994 edition carried particular weight — Lithuania had restored independence only three years earlier, and the festival functioned as a formal reassertion of cultural continuity that Soviet-era interruptions had never fully severed. This coin was among the earliest Lithuanian commemoratives issued under the restored republic's own banking authority.
