Additional information

Israel's 24th Independence Day issue, this coin commemorates the 1972 occasion when the official theme was Soviet Jewry — specifically the campaign to pressure the USSR into permitting Jewish emigration. The "Let My People Go" movement was then at its height, and the coin's release was a deliberate act of political solidarity with refuseniks still trapped behind the Iron Curtain.

KM#62 was struck in both proof and brilliant uncirculated formats at the Jerusalem mint, with the proof edition seeing considerably tighter production numbers.
