| 裏面の説明 | The Gardjola watchtower at Senglea Point is depicted in central perspective, situated prominently above the Grand Harbour, with the historic skyline of Valletta visible in the background. The design captures the fortified character of the Maltese coastline in a detailed engraved composition. The legend GARDJOLA appears at the top of the field, with the date 1973 and the word SPECIMEN inscribed beneath, and the denomination £M10 placed at the lower portion of the reverse. |

Malta's 1973 decimal coinage series was issued in the years immediately following independence from Britain in 1964 and the establishment of the Republic in 1974 — this specimen predates that final constitutional step by roughly a year. The Gardjola, a historic watchtower of the Knights of St. John, gave its name to this denomination as part of a deliberate effort to anchor the new currency in distinctly Maltese imagery rather than inherited colonial iconography.
Specimen strikes from this series were produced for collectors and diplomatic presentation sets, not circulation. Mintages were tightly controlled.
