Obverse description The heraldic arms of Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli (later Pope Pius XII) occupy the central field, depicted as a cardinal's coat of arms surmounted by a galero with tassels and flanked by the crossed Keys of Saint Peter beneath the papal umbrella (umbraculum). A scroll in the lower field bears the motto OPVS IVSTITIAE PAX. The surrounding legend reads SEDE VACANTE MCMXXXIX, denoting the period of the vacant Holy See in Roman numerals.

Reverse description A stylized dove with wings spread wide, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, is depicted in flight at the center of the field, set against radiating sun rays emanating from behind the bird in a striking sunburst composition.
