Additional information

The 1951 Italian pattern series was part of an extensive post-war coinage redesign program as the young Republic worked through competing designs before settling on its definitive circulation types. KM#Pr80 is one of several aluminium 10 Lire patterns struck that year that did not advance to production — the adopted design, by Giuseppe Romagnoli, was already confirmed for regular issue by this point, making these late trials essentially documentary pieces for the mint archive.
