Opmerkingen

O.PRE.V. was a Milan-based private welfare and pension organization, and this 10 Lire note is a fiduciary scrip — issued for internal circulation among members or employees rather than as legal tender. Italian law permitted such instruments in the postwar decades when small-denomination state coinage was chronically scarce, and numerous cooperatives, companies, and mutual societies took advantage of the gap.

The 1956 date places it well into the chronic small-coin shortage that plagued Italy through the 1950s and into the 1960s, eventually prompting the famous telephone-token and candy substitutions at shop tills.
