The 1992 Vatican coin series was issued under the theme "Family in the Modern World," a program tied directly to John Paul II's ongoing catechetical emphasis on the domestic church as a social unit. That year's full set drew from themes he had developed in his 1981 apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio.
