The American University of Beirut's main gate on Bliss Street has stood since the campus was established in 1866 — originally as the Syrian Protestant College — making it one of the oldest continuously operating academic institutions in the Middle East. This coin belongs to Banque du Liban's long-running commemorative series celebrating Lebanese architectural and cultural landmarks, a program that has produced some of the heaviest silver issues in the region's modern numismatic output.
