The American University of Beirut, founded in 1866 by Daniel Bliss as the Syrian Protestant College, received its current name only in 1920. Assembly Hall — the building commemorated here — was completed in 1881 and served as the institution's central gathering space through decades of Ottoman rule, the French Mandate, and Lebanon's postwar reconstruction. Banque du Liban's collector series has consistently used oversized silver formats to document Lebanese cultural and architectural heritage, this piece among the heavier entries in that run.
