| Reverse description | A finely detailed depiction of a traditional Maltese xprunara, a lateen-rigged working boat, occupies the central field, shown broadside with its characteristic large triangular sail billowing and a smaller foresail set forward. The hull, rigging, and oars are rendered with careful engraving detail, and the vessel appears to rest upon a stylised waterline. The Xprunara is a traditional Maltese fishing vessel, and this issue belongs to a long-running Central Bank of Malta gold series documenting indigenous watercraft — one of the more quietly consistent numismatic programs of the early 2000s. Malta's fishing culture predates the Knights of St. John by centuries, and these small-denomination gold pieces were never intended for circulation, produced in limited proof quantities for the collector market.
KM#119 is among the harder dates to source cleanly in the series.
