| 裏面の説明 | Central field displays the coat of arms of Lesotho, featuring a shield supported by two rearing horses on either side, with a Basotho figure seated in traditional dress at the centre of the shield. A scroll beneath the arms bears the national motto 'KHOTSO PULA NALA' (Peace, Rain, Prosperity) in raised lettering. Below the arms, flanked by two five-pointed stars, the denomination '10 LICENTE' is inscribed in bold lettering, with the date '1966' beneath. The fineness mark '900/1000' and the South African Mint mark appear to the lower right and lower left respectively. The entire design is encircled by a beaded border. |

Lesotho's 1966 independence coinage was issued to mark the country's formal separation from British rule on October 4th of that year, when Basutoland became the Kingdom of Lesotho under Moshoeshoe II. The silver pieces in this set were struck for presentation and collector purposes rather than circulation — a newly independent, landlocked nation entirely surrounded by South Africa had little infrastructure for distributing commemorative silver domestically.
The Royal Mint handled production, as it did for numerous post-colonial independence issues of the 1960s Commonwealth transitions.
