Obverse description The Bulgarian state coat of arms — a rampant lion within a shield surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked by wheat sheaves and bearing the dates 681 and 1944 on a ribbon — is displayed prominently in the upper field. Two Olympic torches with flames flank the large denomination numeral '10' in the lower central field, with the word 'ЛЕВА' (Leva) to the right. The circular border is decorated with alternating snowflake ornaments throughout. The curved legend 'НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ' (People's Republic of Bulgaria) runs along the upper periphery, with the date '1984' at lower left and the pattern designation 'ПРОБА I' inscribed discreetly in the right field near the coat of arms.
