| Opis awersu | The state coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria occupies the central field, depicting a rampant lion within a wreath of wheat ears surmounted by a five-pointed star, with a ribbon bearing the dates 681 and 1944 at the base. The International Year of the Child, declared by the UN General Assembly for 1979, prompted a wave of commemorative issues from socialist states eager to demonstrate alignment with international humanitarian causes — Bulgaria among the more prolific participants. The Bulgarian National Bank issued several silver commemoratives that year, this being one of the more commonly encountered examples in the secondary market.
KM#104 was struck at the Sofia Mint with a reported mintage sufficient to keep secondary prices modest even in gem condition.
