| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold high-relief left-facing bust of Georgi Dimitrov occupying the central field, rendered in a naturalistic portrait style with carefully modeled facial features and closely cropped hair. The circular legend 'ГЕОРГИ ДИМИТРОВ', flanked by small five-pointed stars, runs along the upper periphery in Cyrillic characters. The birth and death years '1882' and '1949', separated by a star, are inscribed along the lower border, commemorating the prominent Bulgarian communist statesman and former Secretary-General of the Comintern. |

Georgi Dimitrov died in Moscow in July 1949 under circumstances the Soviet government never fully explained — officially heart disease, though his visible physical deterioration during Stalin's later years has fueled persistent speculation. This commemorative issue appeared fifteen years after his death, during a period when the Bulgarian Communist Party under Todor Zhivkov was actively consolidating its Dimitrov cult as a foundation of regime legitimacy. The Bulgarian National Bank produced gold issues sparingly; this piece was aimed squarely at foreign exchange earnings and collector markets rather than domestic circulation.
